A stream doesn’t put money in your account the same day — that’s just not how DSPs work. Every platform pays on its own monthly cycle, so what you earn in a month usually lands in your bank 60 to 90 days later. Here’s where that time actually goes, stage by stage.
A listener plays your song on Spotify, JioSaavn, or any other platform. The stream gets counted instantly, but nothing is paid yet. At this point the DSP is only tallying numbers.
At month-end the DSP adds up every stream and decides the payout rate. Your earning isn’t a fixed per-stream amount. It depends on platform’s total stream pool that month.
About a month after the cycle closes, the DSP sends your earnings report to The Black Turn through APIs. Then you see platform-wise breakdown, so you can see exactly which store paid how much.
We take our 5%, you keep 95%. Payout goes to your account in INR, USD, or EUR. You’ll need a minimum balance of ₹500 to recieve earnings.

One thing worth knowing: if your royalty income crosses the basic exemption limit, TDS can apply and you’ll usually file under ITR-3. We hand every artist an annual income statement at year-end. Give it straight to your CA, no extra work. Also, per-stream rates aren’t the same everywhere: Apple Music generally pays the most, then Spotify, with JioSaavn and Gaana on the lower side.

(3) Track length: under 60 seconds rejects, over 30 minutes needs album format.
(4) Cover song without mechanical license.
(5) Sample without clearance. The Black Turn pre-checks all five during 24-hour approval. If rejected, we tell you exactly what to fix.

We treat each release as having one primary copyright holder (you) who receives the full 95 percent royalty share. If you have collaborators or featured artists, you handle splits with them separately based on your private agreement. Currently we do not offer auto-split features within the platform.
Yes for remixes and covers, with proper licensing. Cover songs need a mechanical license from the original publisher (use services like EasySong Licensing in India or Loudr globally). Remixes need explicit written permission from the original copyright holder. Mashups that use multiple copyrighted works need clearance from each rights holder. Without these licenses, your song will eventually get taken down by Content ID claims and you may lose accumulated royalties.
GST registration is required if your annual revenue from music plus other services crosses ₹20 lakh (₹10 lakh in special states). Below that threshold, you can operate as an individual creator without GST.
Yes. Metadata updates (corrected artist name, genre, language tags) are usually possible within 7 to 14 days of submitting an update request. Artwork can be replaced but takes 7 to 30 days to propagate to all platforms.

Track title, artist name, language, genre must match exactly between audio file & poster. Spelling errors or wrong language tags cause delays of the songs.
Cover songs need a mechanical license from the original publisher. Beats from beat-makers need a written license. Samples from existing tracks need clearance from the copyright holder.
Songs under 60 seconds get rejected by JioSaavn and most platforms. Tracks over 30 minutes need album or podcast format, not single. Standard singles are 90 seconds to 6 minutes.
